St. Francis Animal Rescue of Venice
is a 501(c)(3) established in 1993.
We are a limited admission, free roaming, no-kill cat rescue.
The shelter is funded by donations and legacy giving, and we rely on our thrift store to supplement monthly expenses.
We support 100+ cats and kittens onsite and approximately 75 in foster care, with 30-40 cats available for adoption at any given time. We have adopted out over 1,000 cats in the past 5 years. While our mission is to find our cats loving homes, we also provide residency to many cats who are unadoptable because of poor health or other reasons.
We have a small team of employees and a dedicated group of approximately 50 volunteers who do whatever is necessary to keep our shelter and thrift store operational. We partner with several local veterinarians for medical treatment of the cats in our care and we greatly appreciate their services. Foster families care for kittens until they are ready for adoption, and others help to socialize cats who otherwise would be considered unadoptable.
We educate cat owners about feline behaviors; provide referrals to free or low cost spay and neuter clinics in the area; and support trapping for TNR programs. We provide donated food for feral colonies and furnish food to families and food banks so pets can remain in their homes.
